Current Fishing report -
Wind still seems to be a problem but those who brave the chop are being rewarded.
There seems to be a run of big fish beginning to show. Yesterday, Chinooks in the high 20’s were being caught. Trolling with Army truck and Green Mottle back hoochies down between 130 and 200 feet seemed to be working the best.
The Coho have started showig as well. Use your Coyote spoons in the top 100 feet. From the time this report was written, hatchery only, but check the regs to make sure.
Current Fishing report -
In the month of May, fishing has started to pick up in the waters off of French Creek. Chinook Salmon are currently coming in ranging in size from 12 to 20+ pounds. Try fishing between 175 and 200 feet down. Army Truck, Green Ghost and Purple Haze hoochies seem to be the top producers. We’ve also seen a few Hali’s caught out front as well. Could be a sign of better things to come.
Freshwater
Cameron Lake is stocked with rainbow and cutthroat trout. It also contains brown trout and kokanee.
Horne Lake at one time was stocked with steelhead. Today it’s stocked with cutthroat trout. You’ll also find rainbows, kokanee.
Spider Lake is stocked with rainbow rainbow trout. You’ll also find some of the best smallmouth bass fishing on the island.
Always check the regs for where, when and how. It’s always best to take your lawyer along with you when fishing Fresh water. You’ll need him to decipher the freshwater regulations.
Saltwater
Chinoook salmon can be caught year round with the season peaking in the summer months.
Coho are spotty during the year. Although they are currently closed, check for openings for hatchery.
In fall, you’ll find Coho returning in good numbers all along the shoreline from French Creek to Nile Creek.
Pinks occasionally return in numbers if the krill are in. Otherwise, you can find them in the late summer returning to Nile Creek.
Rockfish are abundant, but check for closures.
French Creek is not known for Halibut fishing. However, lately there are signs that they are beginning to return to the area.
